I am reading The Lottery by: Beth Goobie. It is excellent! I=Within the first two pages the author had me hooked. It jumps right into the story with no hesitation. I also believe the story line is really realistic. The parts about being bullied and chosen to be bullied as well as how know one really knows a ton about her (seen by her fathers death) makes it seem like a real school. As well, it show the cliques and how even your closest friends can be gone in an instant. I loved the first 53 pages!

Juliet is absolutely ignorant to what happened and is head over heels in love. Then she feels mad and portrayed by Romeo since Romeo killed her cousin, Tybalt. She is furious at what she is hearing from her nurse and she cannot believe she trusted and married Romeo.
2. How does she describe Romeo when she receives news of what has happened?
She says Romeo is evil, mean and a horrible person. Juliet says "O serpent heart, hid with a flow'ring face!" Serpent represents evil in all stories dating back to the story of Adam and Eve. So by this I think she means his evil heart is hidden by his handsome face.
3. According to the Nurse, what does this show?
the nurse thinks there is no trust in their relationship and Romeo cannot be trusted at all. She believe that this shows all men are liars and deceivers and are not to be trusted ever.

Entry #21

1. What words does Romeo use to describe his first sight of Juliet?
Romeo says:
'O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear—
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows
As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.
The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand
And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.
Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.'
I think what he is saying is that she is the most beautiful person he has ever seen. He loves her at first sight. He believes that she is the most gorgeous person in the entire world and that there is no one more lovely and beautiful on earth.
2. How does Tybalt feel about the Montague visitor?
Tybalt is furious that Romeo has showed up. The Montague's are there mortal enemy so he is outraged that Romeo had the nerve to show up at their house and go to their party. Tybalt wants to hurt him and torture him for showing up to this party.
3. Why does Capulet urge patience and caution?
Capulet doesn't want a scene at his party because that will make him look bad. He also says that people are all respective of him so he doesn't think the should create an issue because it will make him look bad.
4. Does Tybalt agree to anything?
Tybalt doesn't agree to anything he just walks away and states that what has happened will not be laid to rest and he will not stop his hatred for Romeo. Tybalt is so infuriated he storms off not promising anything to his uncle Capulet.
5. Rate Romeo's opening lines to Juliet. Explain.
I give Romeo 8 out of 10 on his opening remarks to Juliet because he is very smooth in the way he tells her he wants to kiss her. He is almost complimenting her by saying you are so amazing I just want to be with you and have you to myself. His thoughts are sincere however he comes on very strong within the first couple of sentences he says he states he wants to kiss her which is very different from today's standards.
6. What does Romeo say to the news about Juliet's family?
Romeo is shocked he says "She is a Capulet? Oh my gosh! Now I owe my enemy because I love her so." He feels like he has done wrong in falling for the person he is made to hate. He doesn't know what he has to do.
7. What does Juliet say once she is told that Romeo is a Montague?
Juliet is upset and enraged that she most loves the person she is meant to hate the most. She wish she knew before she fell in love with him and now she can't help that she loves him so much.
8. Describe the mood at the end of this scene/act.
There is anger, lust and disappointment in the air. All of the people around don't want Romeo and Juliet to love each other and even they are mad that they have fallen in love with each other. The are so mad and sad once they have found out who each of them really are. They love each other so much that they know that nothing can change their feelings but the have a hard time trying to cope with the fact that their love is doomed.

Entry# 20

1. What is meant by a "man of wax"?
They mean that this man is the perfect guy he is supposed to be gorgeous and he is very tall and muscular. This man is suppose to be the man every girl dreams to be with, he is perfect in the eyes of others.
2. Describe Juliet
Juliet is really young and innocent she doensn't really want to be married and she is having a tough time saying no to this man since she is being pressured to marry this man. Juliet hasn't really thought of "love" and she isn't sure what to do.
3. Describe her nurse
The nurse is really obedient to the family however she really wants Juliet to get married to Paris. She is kind of rude and obnoxious in this manner. She is saying marry him who cares about his personality he's successful and good looking. The nurse is over the top in pressuring Juliet to marry him.
4. Describe her mother
Juliet's mother doesn't really care what Juliet ends up in choosing as long as Juliet is happy. She wants Juliet to at least give Paris a chance not for sure marry him but at least go out with him and see how she feels after she gets to know Paris.
5. As a young person of the 21st Century, what is your reaction to this pressure being placed on young Juliet?
I don't agree with the pressure being put on Juliet to marry a guy she doesn't know because I personally believe she should have a choice in who she marries. If she doesn't like the guy or if she doesn't want to marry anyone I don't get why she should be pressured into doing something she doesn't want to do.

Entry #19

1. What does Paris want?
Paris wants to be with Juliet and so he asks Capulet for his blessing. He wishes that Juliet will eventually marry him and have children with him.
2. What is Capulet's first response?
Capulet at first doesn't want Juliet to marry since she is not even fourteen. He wants to protect his daughter and he doesn't think she should be wed so young.
3. How does Paris respond to this?
Paris tells Capulet that it is normal for a person her age or younger to be married and even have children.
4. How do you respond to this?
I think that Paris is kind of peculiar to push that people Juliet's age already have children. I do not think Paris and Juliet should be married since she is so young and I understand why Capulet says to Paris she is to young. But the fact that Paris is so persistent and wants to marry Juliet and is saying she is old enough to have kids crosses the line.
5. What does Capulet hope will happen at the party?
At the party Capulet hopes that Paris will see all of the other women and fall in love with someone besides his daughter. Capulet wants Paris to see that their are many available women he could marry.
6. What is Benvolio's hope for the party?
Benvolio is hoping that Romeo will see all of these women around and he hopes that Romeo will see a girl he likes more then Rosaline. He really wants Romeo to feel better and not be so heartbroken and love someone else.
7. Romeo's response?
Romeo doesn't think it is a good idea to crash this party because it is the party held by Old Capulet his families mortal enemy. He fears that if they go it will result in conflict and another fight between the families.
8. Has Shakespeare created an interesting story so far? Explain.
This story so far is very interesting because even though the two families hate each other they are a lot alike. Both children struggle with the idea of love and the parents want to do everything they can to make there children happy. I also enjoy that it got interesting and started-up really quick.

In act 1 scene 1 It talks about romeo going off by himself and taking walks in the early morning then going off into his room. I think he is doing this because he is depressed. His family members say he is depressed by saying 'Many a morning hath he there been seen, with tears augmenting the fresh morning's dew, adding to clouds more clouds with his deep sighs...' Romeo goes on to talk about love. I think that Romeo is sad and depressed because he loves somebody but the do not love him back. He is having a hard time to find his "true love". Then when he is telling Benvolio how much he wants someone to love him and Benvolio doesn't like why he is sad. I think Benvolio is more interested in himself and only cares about himself and doesn't care how Romeo feels. Benvolio doesn't really get how romeo feels.

Entry#17

I think that Shakespeare included this to let everyone know exactly what this play is about because back when it was written people would go to the theater not actually knowing what was going to happen in this play because they didn't have the advertisement we have today. The prologue would tell people this is what will happen and not only that if you didn't fully understand what was happening you could figure it out from what was said in the prologue.
The lines are:
'Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents' strife.
The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,
And the continuance of their parents' rage,
Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,
Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.'
The first line is saying two families are practically the same in how they act. Then it goes on to say that these families live in Verona where the story takes place. These families continue to fight an old feud that has been going on for ages. There is violence that is occurring not only between the two families but this feud is bring other citizens against each other. Then it says the children of both families fall in love even though they shouldn't have. But then these children commit suicide after a series of events that keep them from seeing each other. After they kill themselves the fight between families ends due to the lost of these children. Next it states, these events and more will be performed in the next two hours and any information in this introduction you have missed will be explained as you watch. I believe this is what the prologue is trying to say.

I did not like the ending because it ended so aburptly it was really good. Then, all of the boys were chasing Ralph and trying to kill him, but a naval officer was on the beach to stop them and he found the island cause it was set on fire.It took about two pages to wrap everything up which I did not like. I think by writing Lord of the Flies William Golding was trying to show that every person is evil and that we are all born evil. He shows how even the nicest of people can turn to the worst of person. I believe he shows how people are never as they seem and we are all fighting to survive in this crazy messed up world. He clearly managed to get this message across clearly. I think the beginning was very slow but at the end when it got really good it was just over in an instant. I wish he wrapped the book up differently but overall I loved this book.

Entry#15

This chapter of The Lord of the Flies was very sad because they killed of Piggy in a gruesome way. I enjoyed that the tribes are having conflict and begin to have this war because it draws me into the book. I did not like that it was over stealing Piggy's glasses but even with a poor reason for war it was well written. I was very sad when Piggy died because he was the underdog in the story and I really felt for him, then in no way did the boys see "Maybe I should be nice to this guy." They had no self perseverance instead of dealing with the fact this boy is different they picked on him and at last murdered him. He struggled when he passed on as well which made this chapter even more sad. I felt I could relate to Piggy since he was being bullied and I have to been bullied in my life which made it that much harder that he died. This book is very good but really sad, now I am wondering what happens to the boys next? How will this end?

Entry#14

Chapter ten really showed me who is strong enough to realize they killed a person and who cannot cope with this horrible fact. Jack and Piggy are the ones who cannot cope with what they have done they are denying the fact and avoiding the topic all together. I enjoyed they both believed in the same thing however because it shows they are not that different. All of the other boys realize what they have done but are having a tough time talking about it because there are people around them who do not want to talk about it. I would have liked it if in this chapter they focused more on the death of Simon however, the author talked about what had happened for a short period of time but the more focused on Jack's plans and how he raids the other tribe and steals Piggy glasses. I would have enjoyed the chapter more if they did not talk about stealing Piggy's glasses. I do want to see how the rest of the book plys out after everything that has happened.

Entry#13

The chapter A View to Death was very dark and unsettling. The book has changed from a story of boys trying to survive to a story where a group of boys are on the verge of insanity. The entire story switched direction after the death of Simon. I was shocked that the boys killed Simon. The reason that they murdered Simon was rather odd. I understand living on an island thinking someone or something is go to attack you is rather unnerving, however the fact they went and killed him because he appeared from the shadows was cruel, inhumane and unjust. This story has reached a new level and I think the level it has reached is over the top. My opinion is that the boys can never be the same or normal again.
