Entry #21

1. What words does Romeo use to describe his first sight of Juliet?
Romeo says:
'O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear—
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows
As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.
The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand
And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.
Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.'
I think what he is saying is that she is the most beautiful person he has ever seen. He loves her at first sight. He believes that she is the most gorgeous person in the entire world and that there is no one more lovely and beautiful on earth.
2. How does Tybalt feel about the Montague visitor?
Tybalt is furious that Romeo has showed up. The Montague's are there mortal enemy so he is outraged that Romeo had the nerve to show up at their house and go to their party. Tybalt wants to hurt him and torture him for showing up to this party.
3. Why does Capulet urge patience and caution?
Capulet doesn't want a scene at his party because that will make him look bad. He also says that people are all respective of him so he doesn't think the should create an issue because it will make him look bad.
4. Does Tybalt agree to anything?
Tybalt doesn't agree to anything he just walks away and states that what has happened will not be laid to rest and he will not stop his hatred for Romeo. Tybalt is so infuriated he storms off not promising anything to his uncle Capulet.
5. Rate Romeo's opening lines to Juliet. Explain.
I give Romeo 8 out of 10 on his opening remarks to Juliet because he is very smooth in the way he tells her he wants to kiss her. He is almost complimenting her by saying you are so amazing I just want to be with you and have you to myself. His thoughts are sincere however he comes on very strong within the first couple of sentences he says he states he wants to kiss her which is very different from today's standards.
6. What does Romeo say to the news about Juliet's family?
Romeo is shocked he says "She is a Capulet? Oh my gosh! Now I owe my enemy because I love her so." He feels like he has done wrong in falling for the person he is made to hate. He doesn't know what he has to do.
7. What does Juliet say once she is told that Romeo is a Montague?
Juliet is upset and enraged that she most loves the person she is meant to hate the most. She wish she knew before she fell in love with him and now she can't help that she loves him so much.
8. Describe the mood at the end of this scene/act.
There is anger, lust and disappointment in the air. All of the people around don't want Romeo and Juliet to love each other and even they are mad that they have fallen in love with each other. The are so mad and sad once they have found out who each of them really are. They love each other so much that they know that nothing can change their feelings but the have a hard time trying to cope with the fact that their love is doomed.
